Australian RV

That's our RV, just on sunrise, camped by the roadside near Coral Bay, Western Australia.

This website tells the story of how we got there and our continuing adventures living and working around Australia with our cat Zebbie, and our Sundance fifth wheel van.

Our search for a new cat continued on and off, now focused on the internet.

The first we found that seemed right was in Darwin, but the more photos we saw, the more she reminded us of Zebbie.

We'd seen a poster for a car boot sale at Henty hall on Sunday the first, so we decided to make that our weeks trip.

Daylight saving ended today, so we were up with plenty of time to get to the market.

We stopped at a small street market in Skipton where Lyn bought a plant. The first for the day.

Sunday, 4th March, 2012

We left Alice Springs on Tuesday morning. No rain, but as we proceeded south we were driving through ground that had recently had a lot of rain. The side of the road was sodden and the drains were full of water.

We stopped near the border to take a picture. Lucky we did since once we were through the border the scenery was back to a real desolate desert.

Sunday, 26th February, 2012

It's been raining in the Centre, with forecast of much more, and so we are looking to leave before we get rained-in.

We spent the weekend getting ready for the move. We made a new box for some of the things we carry on the back of the truck, and fitted the hitch again.

From the moment we picked up our truck, the paint job on the tray has been a source of complaint. I had got a very good quote to sandblast the tray in Alice, but with our departure imminent, we thought we might give it a quick clean and spray ourselves.

Last weekend, our long time travelling companion, Zebbie the cat, started looking very unwell. It came on quite quickly with her showing no interest in her food, and finding it very hard to walk. She is twelve years old, but had been in great health - apart from being a little too chubby.

Sunday, 8th January, 2012

I'm sure you will have noticed that there has been no activity on this site for over a year now. In that time we have stayed and worked in Alice Springs again, and most of the things we did were the same as the previous year. Now we are making preparations to move, so this seems a good time to continue updating.

Thursday, 11th November, 2010

Our site at the Shelly Beach Caravan Park was really nice. The park is on the land side of a high sand dune that keeps the wind away from the sites.

Over the sand dune is Shelly Beach, named for all the shells that cover the sand.

All weekend we'd been contacting people we knew around the country trying to find out where there was reasonable work available. Sunday night we heard that there was plenty of work in Ceduna working at grain storage on the wharf.

First thing Monday I rang the recruiter for the job and was told there would be work there for us,
