Rollin, Rollin, Rollin.
Compacting roller working part of road.
Thursday, 30th September, 2010
That's my compacting goats-foot roller - Mr Stampy - working on one side of the road in front of Alice Springs showgrounds on a beautiful Spring morning.
We've been backfilling a trench dug under the road for the new power mains into town. One of my jobs on this site has been to compact the fill very well, and when Mr Stampy gets into full vibration, the earth really does tremble.
View from the roller's window.
I'd taken my camera to work this morning to take these picture, including this view out Mr Stampy's window, and the lineup of gear at the prestart.
The weather has really picked up, and it is a real pleasure working outside in these gorgeous mornings.
Lineup of machinery at jobsite.
It had been quite a good day, up until the end, when a few hassles occurred and as far as I was concerned, it was just too much. Overnight I decided to quit and most likely move further north.
It's been really interesting working in this industry, and it will be a pity to leave.
